They don’t call Florida the silly state for nothing. It’s hard to be myself here. Everything’s new, but I like old. I go to dinner parties, charity balls, and other social events. I have a good time, and it’s nice to laugh. I would occasionally like to have a serious conversation. Driving home from dinner with friends last night, I wanted to talk about an artical I had read in The Atlantic. It was about The Villages in Florida. The article was saying that society should stop marginalizing older people and ridiculing them in the media. As more boomers retire, it would be a loss to our country if many of them formed these over 55 communities across the nation, so they could be respected for their intelligence and experience. Soon every state would become like Florida. But I realized that no one in the car would want to talk about this subject. In fact, they would consider it a buzz kill. Florida is like the desert I had that night, raspberry sorbet in champagne.
